How to Use Variable Fields for Email Personalization

What Are Variable Fields and What Are They For?

Variable fields are placeholders within an email where you can insert personalized information for each recipient.

Imagine you are sending the same email to a large group of people, but you want each person to feel like the message is specifically addressed to them. This is where variable fields come into play—they allow you to add a much more personal touch to your emails.

How to Add Variable Fields to Your Emails in Mailerfind

When you download the CSV file from Mailerfind containing all your contacts, you'll notice that it includes fields like User Name (John), Website (mailerfind.com), or Location (Barcelona). You can use these data points to automatically personalize your emails using variable fields such as {{ first_name }} or {{ website }}.

If any of your contacts are missing information in some fields, don't worry. The tool will automatically detect this and leave the space blank—meaning the placeholder {{first_name}} will not appear in the email.

Inside Mailerfind’s Email Sender, you’ll find the variable fields feature easily accessible.

Where Can These Variable Fields Be Used?

Anywhere! You can use them in the body of the email, in the email subject line, or even within a hyperlink text (e.g., www.example.com/invitation-{{first_name}}). For example, this is how it would look in a subject line:

So, Should You Use Variable Fields in Your Email Campaigns?

Absolutely. They are the key to personalization at scale, which can make the difference between being ignored and capturing your audience’s attention. In short, they are an invaluable tool to improve the effectiveness of your email campaigns.
